FROZEN on Ice

On June 7th of last year, I purchased tickets for FROZEN on Ice. Yes, I was one of those parents. I got the e mail about this event coming to the Target Center in Minneapolis, and just knew our FROZEN obsessed girls would love it. Plus at that time I had no idea we were going to Disney World (had I known we'd have skipped this event since we did everything FROZEN imaginable at Disney). So I bought the tickets 10 months in advance. We kept this little secret to ourselves, and a few days before decided to tell the girls we were going on a Sunday Funday adventure, but still didn't tell them where--other than to say we were going to brunch (our favorite family meal outing) and then to do "something that Daddies love to do" (this was Matt's diversionary tactic). The girls weren't sure this was going to be interesting to them, but they played along anyway. We hauled everyone out the door at 6:45 a.m. and headed north. When we parked for the day, we were right next to this cool mural of music. Matt wanted to take a picture so we could come home and try to play it on the piano.

We took the girls to Hell's Kitchen (no relation to the show), which is a fun and funky local joint that Matt and I ate at a few years ago. This place makes their own peanut butter (and it is divine), so we knew our peanut butter loving monsters would love some toast at the very least.

They also make their own jam, which Adrienne found to be wear-worthy.

Kid pancakes were extra delicious when served in a bear shape

I loved this Temperature Checklist that was on the placement. So sad, so true.

Instead of crayons/paper, the restaurant gave the kids a bucket of temporary tattoos. Soon we were all sporting one.

The fake "Up North" scenery you could take pictures with while you perused all the interesting things around the restaurant.

We then took a stroll through downtown and over to the Target Center. Matt finally revealed to the girls that we were going to watch hockey. They've never watched hockey, so they had very limited knowledge of what was supposed to happen, but when we walked inside the door there were gobs of little girls dressed in Elsa costumes and vendors selling FROZEN garb. To say they were confused would be an understatement.

It's pretty cool that you can get princesses at a hockey game! Sad to report that Elsa has already been decapitated and awaits some super glue

We got to our seats and Matt was explaining to the girls that the program book we purchased is what they should look at to find out what was going to happen at this "hockey event"

Ever seen a hockey rink quite like this?

Since the girls still looked far too confused, we finally made the big reveal. Huge smiles!

The show began with Mickey and Minnie coming out to have the kids do some dancing before the show.

Soon nearly every Disney character you could think of (or at least the ones my girls care about) was out on the ice dancing.

The show began and the girls were mesmerized as expected. At "halftime" they begged for snacks. We assumed we'd be purchasing popcorn or cotton candy.....but no....the first stand we saw outside our area was one selling snow cones in princess cups....for TWELVE dollars. So what did we do? We bought two and called it lunch. For reals.

Enjoy it kids. Your mother is never going to serve you ice smothered in colored sugar syrup in an overpriced cup for lunch again. Seriously, what a bad move Disney. These things were such a gigantic mess. Overflowing and spilling everywhere. We were all covered in sticky disgustingness before it was all said and done.

Adrienne was most concerned as to whether or not the "real Marshmallow" was going to come out on the ice. She was relieved to see that it was just a very large blow up prop.

The beloved sisters at the end of the show.

All the princesses came back for the finale.

We snuck out a back exit when it was over (that was pretty slick) and basically fell into a Starbucks, where Matt and I called our flat whites "lunch". Then we headed over to REI for a bit of shopping and back home just in time to eat popcorn and leftovers for dinner. No awards for kid nutrition on this date!
