Summer Fun--Week 7

This was a week of grandparent detox, lots of time with Daddy, and swimming lessons. Matt was on call and working a strange evening shift, that while makes him absent for dinner/bath/bedtime each night, affords him the chance to hang out with us most of the day. He got to come to the RAC for swimming lessons each morning. I decided to do just one week of swimming lessons (swimming every day for one week) versus spreading out a weekly lesson that would often need to be rescheduled due to conflicting with various other camps and activities. The girls were both delighted to see Mrs Larson and enjoyed their lessons and extended time in the pool before and after.

Jillian got to have her lesson at the outside pool on Thursday. Working on coordinating breathing while kicking and swimming in this pic.

Adrienne had the shallow end all to herself to frolic about and play with the little ball she brought.

And this was the highlight for me. Watching Mrs Larson lead the girls up the steps to the water slide.

And then she went down first!

Know any other 81 year olds who go down a water slide? Mrs Larson is one amazing woman for a whole bunch of reasons.

On Friday after the RAC we headed down to the library to restock. Jillian learned how to use the checkout system by herself.

The rule is you can check out as many books as will fit in these bags--but you have to be able to carry them out!

On Saturday we hung out in the morning and then went out to lunch. As we were driving home, we noticed it was Jeep Freedom Days at the Jeep dealership, where a bunch of Jeep owners come and display their cool tricked out Jeeps. Matt of course loves Jeeps (having driven one in college), so he wanted to show them to the girls. They enjoyed some of the owners being extra nice and offering to let them sit in their Jeeps. They also had a little demolition display, which really confused the girls but they wanted to take a picture with anyway.

Today I took the girls to church and Trader Joe's while Matt went in to read a few CT scans. After lunch and a short quiet time, we spent the afternoon at the Country Club pool. For most of the time we were there, we had the entire shallow section to ourselves. Matt swam with the girls, while I observed from my perch in the chair, Kindle by my side.

Outdoor dinner by the pool isn't a bad way to end the weekend......notice Jillian's "novel" next to her at the table.
