Memorial Day Weekend

We enjoyed a leisurely Memorial Day weekend with great weather and some nice family time. Just a few pics...

Enjoying frozen yogurt pops after some bike riding

My peonies and iris were so gorgeous this year!

The girls and I went on a scooter ride/run together as we tried to beat some rain. We made it! Still working on some road safety for these country girls.

On Sunday when we left for brunch, we were startled to see a sleeping fawn tucked between our house and trash cans. Nothing scared this little thing--the car engines, garage doors, kids playing, etc. His momma told him to stay put, and he did! I wish my kids listened like that. He hung out there all day and night, and I was so happy to find that he was gone the next morning. A part of me was kind of worried his mom wouldn't return. Find a better hiding place next time, momma deer!

The girls heard me say, "Find your own fun" about a million times over the weekend. I have already prepared them that I am going to let them be bored this summer. These girls need to enjoy life with less adult-guided entertainment!

We went to the high school track to show the girls how far a 1/2 mile is--they are going to run the kids Spartan race when Matt does the adult Spartan race at the end of June. Matt took them on the track and explained that they needed to run two laps to make the distance of the race.

Ready, set, go!

It was interesting to see the girls' different running styles. Jillian was fast out of the gate and lost steam, needed to walk (and complain) a bit. Adrienne was steady, and ran the whole way. When they crossed the finish line she decided she wanted to run more. So, she ran another 400 m like a pro and did it under 2 min. She seems to have a natural running stride....maybe she got some of the family running genes?
