We finally had an official movie night with our outdoor screen! While we've watched many movies outside over the last year, we had just never quite gotten our act together to invite friends over and make it a party. We saw the weather forecast was looking good for October 1st, so a few days prior we sent out an evite to some neighbors and school friends and we were on our way to some big family fun! We ended up with about 25 people--our family, the Olsens, the Sellons, the Thorstensons, the Sheggebys, half of the Durgins (Kara and Max), and two neighbor boys, Declan and Aspen. The weather was perfect and it really was a magical evening.
Party prep. Dr Popcorn Scientist was hard at work making lots and lots of his famous popcorn to pre-fill bags and refill bowls.
I took advantage of Halloween candy out in stores to make for an easy movie treat spread.
We set the table up in the extra garage and filled coolers of beverages. Had to have some glow sticks, too!
I saw this great idea on Pinterest to use disposable baking pans as trays to hold popcorn, candy, and drinks. I found a pack of 30 at Costco for $5 and they were perfect. Awesome way to contain trash and spillage for kids.
As we were going to show The Good Dinosaur, Adrienne decided to draw a picture of the upcoming party. You can see the dinosaur contained in the movie screen she drew, as well as lots of popcorn below!

Getting our chairs set up and testing the equipment before our guests arrived. This picture is so funny to me because you can see that the girls' green chairs are spaced faaaaar apart from each other. Matt originally placed them beside each other, and was quickly scolded--they wanted to be sitting with their friends, not their sister!
So the Halloween candy was a hit. Kids were just grabbing handfuls as we started to setup. It was dark, so of course the grownups had a hard time monitoring the consumption if they were successful in sneaking more. Little Elise was the cutest one of all...not quite yet 3 and she was sneaking candy like a boss!

The movie was not without laughs created by the audience members....we did have a fun, impromptu shadow puppet show at one point.
